CorrChoice Mason’s Energy Reduction Project Wins Award

Greif’s CorrChoice facility in Mason, Michigan was awarded the “Project of the Year” by Consumers Energy in Spring 2019 as part of its Business Energy Efficiency Program. The award is given to businesses that complete an energy related project that results in the reduction of electrical consumption with a strong return on investment.

“We’re proud to see that this project has minimized our energy use and has also allowed our company to see cost savings,” said Dan Zachar, general manager of Greif’s CorrChoice facility in Mason. “Minimizing the impact our operations have on the environment is a priority for us. We appreciate the effort it took from our colleagues to see this project through completion and are thrilled to have received recognition from Consumers Energy.”

CorrChoice Mason replaced 350 T5 light fixtures with new, high-efficiency LED fixtures in its facility. The switch to LED fixtures led to a reduction of 868,000 kWh and an annual cost savings of $90,000. The project supports Greif’s sustainability goal to reduce energy emissions from its facilities.

The project was led by David Lynch, CorrChoice Mason maintenance manager, and Christopher Conn, CorrChoice electrician. The installation efforts were led by Todd Bursley, Sr. IT support technician, and Jamie Sleight, safety and environmental coordinator, driving the project to an on-time and safe completion. The lights were officially installed in December 2017 and the impact of the new LED fixtures was surveyed throughout 2018. CorrChoice has also seen a safety benefit to the LED lights. If the facility loses power, the facility is now able to provide colleagues with enough lighting to safely exit the building.

As the recipient of the award, CorrChoice Mason received a monetary award from the energy company and was featured on a billboard in Mason.
