Greif launches the first 20L IMB jerrycan weighing 980g in Brazil

Greif, in partnership with Syngenta, is taking a historic step in the Brazilian market by introducing the first 20-liter jerrycan with In-mold Barrier (IMB) technology weighing less than 1,000g. At just 980g, it is the lightest barrier jerrycan available in the Brazilian market, combining lightness, safety, and sustainability, and marking a significant advancement in the industrial packaging industry.

The In-mold Barrier (IMB) technology, developed by Greif and applied globally for more than 30 years, is an innovative solution that combines performance, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. It creates a highly effective barrier against solvents, preserving product quality and stability over time. In addition, it ensures consistency and reliability in the process, reducing contamination risks and extending product shelf life. Another key advantage is its environmental commitment: compatible with HDPE recycling, the technology allows for the use of up to 50% post-consumer material and contributes to reducing the carbon footprint compared to other barrier solutions.

The project, developed in collaboration between Greif and Syngenta, highlights the power of partnership between global leaders in the agricultural sector. This cooperation made it possible to create a lighter, safer, and more sustainable packaging solution that meets international regulatory requirements and represents innovation put into practice.

Currently, the 20L 980g IMB jerrycan is in the launch and expansion phase within the Brazilian agricultural market, establishing itself as a pioneering solution to meet the sector’s growing demands for greater efficiency and environmental responsibility.

With this initiative, Greif — the global leader in industrial packaging with 148 years of history — and Syngenta — the global leader in crop protection products — reaffirm their commitment to innovation, sustainability, and creating value for their customers. More than just a new product, this is a milestone that redefines standards and paves the way for the future of industrial packaging across multiple markets — including chemicals, petrochemicals, agrochemicals, food and beverage, and industrial specialties worldwide.
