At Greif, we believe transparency is essential to building trust with customers, suppliers, investors and other stakeholders. That’s why we monitor and advance our performance across leading Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) assessments, including EcoVadis, Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), Sustainalytics, Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), which independently evaluate our environmental, social and governance performance.
These ratings help customers assess supplier risk, make informed sourcing decisions and understand how Greif manages sustainability-related opportunities and challenges. Information from these assessments are provided to asset managers to support their understanding of sustainability-related risk and opportunity management, transparency, and comparison across peer companies. We use the results to drive continuous improvement in our sustainable business practices, data transparency and reporting, and identifying best practices. Here’s a closer look at the ratings, our results and their impact across our value chain.
EcoVadis: Delivering Value Beyond Sustainability
EcoVadis remains a strategic priority for many organizations because it is one of the most widely used sustainability assessments in global supply chains and is increasingly leveraged by customers during supplier selection and evaluation processes. The assessment measures performance across environmental, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement topics, assigning a score from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating stronger sustainability performance.
In 2022, Greif signed a sustainable financing agreement to tie our loan pricing to increasing our EcoVadis score, translating sustainability performance into financial value. Greif’s EcoVadis score of 74 last year exceeded our target score and our increased score of 78 exceeds the target included in our 2026 renewal which extended our sustainability financing agreement through 2031.
Greif’s commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in our EcoVadis performance. From 2023 to 2026, we increased our score by more than 13%, rising from 69 to 78, while consistently ranking in the 90th percentile or higher among assessed companies.
Greif’s improved score of 74 in 2025 generated approximately $239,000 in savings in 2026. Building on this progress, the increase to 78 in 2026 is expected to deliver an additional $0.2 million in annual savings from March 2027 through March 2031.
Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI): Measuring Resilience to Sustainability Risks
MSCI ESG Ratings assess how effectively companies manage the topics MSCI considers to present financially relevant sustainability risks and opportunities, assigning ratings from AAA (Leader) to CCC (Laggard). Greif has maintained an A rating or higher since 2021, reflecting our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, transparency, and responsible business practices.
Sustainalytics: Demonstrating Lower ESG Risk
Morningstar Sustainalytics ESG Risk Ratings evaluate both a company’s exposure to sustainability-related risks and its ability to manage them. Scores range from 0 to 40+, with lower scores indicating lower unmanaged risk.
Greif has consistently earned a Low Risk rating, improving its score from 19.0 in 2024 to 14.5 in 2026. These ratings help Greif better understand and manage sustainability-related risks while providing customers, suppliers and investors with an independent view of our long-term resilience and operational stability.
Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS): Advancing Transparency Through Disclosure
Greif is evaluated by ISS through its Environmental & Social (E&S) Disclosure QualityScore, which assesses the quality and completeness of corporate sustainability disclosures relative to industry peers. Scores range from 1 to 10, with 1 representing the strongest performance. ISS incorporates these scores into its annual proxy voting recommendations and communications with asset managers.
Throughout the past three years, Greif’s Environmental and Social scores consistently ranged between 2 and 3, demonstrating strong disclosure and management practices across key ESG topics. Greif also received an ISS ESG Corporate Rating of B-, positioning the Company among the industry leaders in ESG performance and management. These assessments provide valuable insight into our sustainability reporting and help reinforce stakeholder confidence in the quality, transparency and consistency of our disclosures.
S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment: A Broader ESG Perspective
Greif also participates in the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), one of the world’s most recognized sustainability benchmarking frameworks. The assessment evaluates a company’s performance across a wide range of environmental, social and governance topics and serves as the foundation for several prominent sustainability indices and evaluations.
Participation in the CSA allows Greif to benchmark its performance against global industry peers while gaining additional insight into opportunities for improvement. The assessment complements other ESG ratings by providing a broader view of sustainability management practices and organizational maturity.
