This year marks a meaningful milestone—not just for the Global Scholars Diploma Program, but for our partnership with the Columbus Council on World Affairs (CCWA). For the past eight years, Greif has proudly supported this powerful initiative that is working to help shape the next generation of global leaders.
The CCWA Global Scholars Diploma Program equips students with global fluency, leadership skills, and cross-cultural understanding needed to engage more effectively with people and organizations around the world. These types of capabilities transcend borders and align perfectly with the kind of talent we seek at Greif.
This year, we’re celebrating the program’s 10th graduating class—its largest ever, with 235 graduates and more than 1,100 students participating across all three grade levels. These students didn’t just complete a program – they are developing the mindset, leadership skills, and global perspective needed to make a difference, wherever they go.
The program recently concluded with a Graduation and Take Action Project Fair, where students showcased their real-world solutions to global issues—proving that young people are already driving change in their communities. The event also featured a special video tribute to students’ hopes and visions for the future, aligning beautifully with CCWA’s 50th anniversary theme: The World We Were, The World We Are, The World We Want.
We’re also proud to have Bala V. Sathyanarayanan, our Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, serving on the CCWA Board of Directors. His involvement reflects our commitment to empowering future global leaders.
“Greif’s support of the Global Scholars Diploma Program is more than just a corporate initiative; it’s a reflection of our core values and our belief in the transformative power of education. I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the Columbus Council on World Affairs and to see firsthand how this program is equipping young leaders with the mindset and skills to make a difference. These students inspire us all to think globally and lead with purpose.”
— Bala V. Sathyanarayanan, EVP & Chief Human Resources Officer
Patrick Terrien, the President & CEO of CCWA, echoed this sentiment and expressed his gratitude for the role Greif continues to play in this transformative journey: “Greif is a treasure in our community and to our students. I hope each Greif associate, here in the US and across the world, knows the impact of this support. Every CCWA student believes they can change the world—and Greif helps make that possible.”These students aren’t just tomorrow’s leaders — they’re potential future Greif leaders. Their ability to collaborate across cultures, think critically, and act with purpose are qualities we value in our workforce. They are thinkers, doers, and change-makers—and we are honored to be a small part of their journey.
