Coated recycled paperboard (CRB), also known as clay coated news back (CCNB) is a paperboard made from recycled paper fibers with a coating applied to its surface.
The coating, which can be applied to one or both sides of the paperboard, gives the material a smooth, glossy finish and makes it more resistant to wear and tear. Coated recycled paperboard is often used for printing applications, such as book covers, magazines, and brochures. It is also used for packaging, such as boxes and cartons, and for other types of products, such as playing cards and business cards.
Like uncoated recycled paperboard, coated recycled paperboard is a more environmentally friendly option than paperboard made from virgin fibers, as it reduces the amount of waste in landfills and requires fewer resources to produce. However, it is not as easily recyclable as uncoated paperboard, as the coating can make it more difficult to break down the fibers during the recycling process.
Uncoated recycled paperboard (URB), AKA chip board or bending chip is a type of paperboard made from recycled paper fibers. It is called “uncoated” because it does not have a coating, such as a glossy finish, applied to its surface. Uncoated recycled paperboard is typically used for packaging and printing applications, and it is often used to make boxes, cartons, and other types of packaging materials. URB is inherently more sustainable than paperboard made from virgin fibers, as it requires fewer resources to produce and reduces the amount of waste in landfills. Uncoated recycled paperboard can be recycled again after use, further reducing its environmental impact.
