This investment strengthens our ability to deliver reliable, responsible, and competitive steel drum solutions, while helping customers meet their own environmental and sustainability objectives.
Clean Energy That Supports Customer Goals
The newly commissioned solar system at Greif Huizhou includes 1,342 rooftop solar panels, generating approximately 640,000 kWh of clean electricity each year. Once fully operational, the system will supply around 30% of the plant’s total power needs.
For our customers, this means:
- Lower-carbon manufacturing is embedded directly into the products they purchase
- Greater alignment with ESG, Scope 3 emissions, and sustainability reporting goals
- Confidence that their packaging partner is actively reducing environmental impact
The system is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 320 metric tons of CO₂ annually, the equivalent of planting more than 14,000 trees.

Sustainability and operational excellence go hand in hand. By generating clean energy onsite, Greif Huizhou improves energy resilience while managing costs more effectively. Based on peak electricity rates, the system is projected to save around $9,000 annually, helping maintain cost competitiveness without compromising quality or service.
