Greif Earns Sustainability Award from Customer

Greif was recently awarded the “Supplier Sustainability Award” by one of its customers, Solvay, a chemical company based in Belgium. Greif was recognized by Solvay for its achievements in sustainability and its ability to help customers achieve their sustainability goals.

Solvay specifically cited that its partnership with Greif has helped the company improve its conservation efforts. With help from Greif, Solvay implemented the use of rebottled IBCs in 2018, a practice it is working to expand within its facilities. Solvay also noted Greif’s sustainability achievements, namely the Gold Recognition Level from EcoVadis in 2018 and 2019, for its high score in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) evaluation. The recognition put Greif in the top four percent of all companies evaluated by EcoVadis.

“Greif has been a strong partner for Solvay, helping us to continually find solutions to enhance our ability to be environmentally responsible,” said Kristian Saksida, purchasing group general manager at Solvay. “Solvay is always looking at our entire value chain to identify ways to reduce emissions and Greif has played an important role in helping us take positive steps forward.”

Greif’s dedication to sustainability is one of the company’s guiding principles outlined in The Greif Way. The company expresses its commitment to using “financial, natural and human resources wisely without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.”

“Greif certainly takes pride in an award of this kind, as we strive to meet the needs of our customers, including the needs specifically tied to sustainability,” said Aysu Katun, Greif director of sustainability. “While we are always working to find ways to help our company achieve its sustainability goals, we are also striving to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals.”
