Greif has been producing plastic containers in Latin America since the late 1990s. In 2012, the operation was moved to a newly constructed, 50,000 square-foot facility in Manaus, Brazil, to meet the growing demand for its products within the beverage industry.
We are pleased that growth continues today. The facility operates six production lines, manufacturing jerrycans of various sizes and 140 liter plastic drums. Demand is particularly high for the facility’s high performance jerrycans, and the Manaus team is proud to serve some of the world’s leading beverage manufacturers from their site in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
Most importantly, the resulting economies of scale have enabled our customer to pass on savings to its own customer base.
“Achieving the globally recognized FSSC 22000 Food Safety Certification, which is certified by the Global Food Safety Initiative, is testament to our commitment to providing the best level of service and quality to customers in the food and beverage industry across the region,” explains Gustavo Melo.
One of Greif’s largest global customers has this to say about the Manaus facility: “Manaus is an important site for our business and we require excellent quality and service to be able to meet the market demand. Greif is a global partner and the team at Manaus does a great job for us. We are also pleased with the continued investments being made in Manaus to be able to supply a wider range of our containers.”
“Challenges around transportation and logistics infrastructure makes high capacity packaging handling difficult in Latin America, which is why we continue to see high demand for small plastic packaging. We work closely with our customers to understand and anticipate their end market needs and deliver customer service excellence. Working with some of the world’s leading beverage manufacturers means we have to adhere to the most stringent standards,” shares Gustavo Melo, Marketing Manager at Greif LATAM.
