DELAWARE, Ohio (April 10, 2012) – Greif, Inc. (NYSE: GEF, GEF.B) has awarded its 2011 Michael J. Gasser Global Sustainability Award to the Delta Companies Group Toronto and Chicago facilities. Toronto is led by Geoff Kilburn; Chicago leaders include Clay Best, Jim Czerwinski, Michael Kirkwood and Dave Nelson. Delta is a subsidiary of Greif.

Greif teams around the world submitted 35 nominations for the award, now in its third year. In the first two years of the award, nominations represented a combined savings and revenue of $28 million for the company.

Greif President & CEO David Fischer said, “The Delta team did an outstanding job in advancing our commitment to becoming a more sustainable company. Their work on developing more sustainable engine lubricants and automotive fluids and reducing the environmental footprint of their formulation and packaging is creating awareness that these products can be recyclable, biodegradable and made from renewable resources, and still meet the performance standards required. We are all thrilled with their work, and look forward to more innovative products coming from this team.”

The team’s body of work includes innovative packaging and recycled raw material content. In Toronto, the team’s Flo-Perm® windshield washer fluids and plumbing antifreeze are formulated primarily with recycled raw materials. In Chicago, the team was successful in developing for the Ace brand a unique package type that reduces landfill waste by more than 70 percent. The Chicago team also worked with Green Earth Technologies to manufacture both non-petroleum and twice-refined motor oil fluids that are registered with the American Petroleum Institute. GET G-Oil® products include Ultimate Biodegradable Bio-based Advanced Full Synthetic and 2x Refined Motor Oil. The oils are certified by the American Petroleum Institute.
