William Greif and Albert Vanderwyst open a cooperage shop, “Vanderwyst and Greif,” in Cleveland, Ohio.
1923
1923
The first bitumen steel drum is produced, which is still part of the product portfolio today.
1955
1955
Greif transitions from key and barrel heading, and stave mills and cooperage facilities to manufacturing fibre drums and corrugated containers.

Greif officially enters the containerboard manufacturing business with the purchase of Massillon, Ohio, paper mill
greif timeline 2001
2001
Greif buys Van lLeer Industrial, giving Greif an international footprint and doubling the size of the company. The company’s name is changed to Greif, Inc.

Greif receives Gold Recognition from EcoVadis due to their ongoing commitment to sustainability and corporate social Responsibility for the first time.

Greif Bros. Company becomes the largest cooperage plant in the world.

Under the leadership of John C. Dempsey the headquarters moves from Cleveland to Delaware, Ohio.

Greif acquires four Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC) companies including Storsack Group, the largest company in the FIBCs industry.

Greif acquires Caraustar Industries, Inc., a leading recycled paperboard and packaging solutions company in North America, in the largest deal in the company’s history.
